Choy Li Fut Kung Fu

The Chinese Martial Art of Choy Li Fut was founded in 1836 by Chan Heung. The name Choy Li Fut is a combination of the names of three teachers who taught Chan Heung, namely Buddhist monk Choy Fook who taught him Choy Gar, Li Yau-San who taught him Li Gar, and Chan Yuen-Wu, his uncle, who taught him Fut Gar.

The Choy Li Fut style combines powerful arm and hand techniques, as well as in-close fighting skills, common to the Shaolin animal forms of China's south, with the footwork, circular movements and long range striking of martial arts from China's North. The result is an extremely effective system of self defense with special enhanced combatative effectiveness against multiple attackers.

To quote Bruce Lee: "Choy Li Fut is the most effective system that I've seen for fighting more than one person. [It] is one of the most difficult styles to attack and defend against. Choy Li Fut is the only style [of kung fu] that traveled to Thailand to fight the Thai boxers and hadn't lost."

Note that, unlike most other martial arts schools, a membership at Black Lion entitles a student to unlimited group classes as well as a one on one private lesson every week with their own instructor.
