Black Lion Martial Arts ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and disclose your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. What Personal Information We Collect

We may collect and hold the following:

Identity and contact details — full name, date of birth, gender, residential address, phone number, email address, and emergency contact details.

Health and medical information — existing injuries, medical conditions, or physical limitations relevant to participation in training, and records of any incidents or injuries sustained at our facilities.

Financial information — direct debit account details and payment history (card and account numbers are processed and held by our payment provider; we do not store full payment credentials).

Training records — attendance history, rank and grading records, and class participation.

Images and recordings — photographs or video taken at our facilities for training, safety, or promotional purposes, including CCTV footage.

Digital usage data — login and activity data when using our member management portal or online booking system.

3. How We Collect Your Information

We collect personal information directly from you when you enrol, sign a waiver, book a trial, or contact us. Where a participant is under 18, we collect information from their parent or legal guardian. We also collect information automatically through our member management software and CCTV systems.

4. Why We Collect Your Information

We use your personal information to enrol and manage your membership or trial; process payments and manage billing; communicate with you about classes, scheduling, and events; ensure your safety during training, including by managing any relevant health conditions or limitations; comply with our insurance and legal obligations; and, with your consent, send you newsletters or promotional material. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time.

5. Disclosure to Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with our payment processor (Stripe), accounting software (Xero), our member management software provider, medical or emergency services where required for your safety, our legal or professional advisors, and government agencies where required by law. Where we engage third-party providers, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

6. Storage and Security

Your personal information is stored securely on cloud-based systems hosted in Australia or with providers bound by equivalent privacy protections. We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect it against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or alteration. We retain your information for as long as your membership is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet our legal obligations.

7. Your Rights — Access and Correction

You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you and to ask us to correct any inaccurate or outdated information. We will respond to all requests within 30 days.

8. Complaints

If you believe we have not handled your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), you may contact us to raise a complaint. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
